Sri. Sunkari Alwar Das

Sri SUNKARI ALWAR DAS was born on 31st October, 1930 in Visakhapatnam city in a respectable family. His parents are Sri Srinivasa Rao Naidu & Smt. Alivelu manga Thayaramma, he had his school education in Narasipatnam, Srikakulam, Ichapuram, Parvathipuram and Anakapalli and Intermediate in Visakhapatnam. He is post graduate in Economics from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam and LLB from Delhi University.
He took keen interest in public affairs at an early age, worked in student congress and participated in quit India movement. After independence he was in the thick of struggle for Andhra state in early 50’s and also participated in agitation for steel plant at Visakhapatnam.
He was elected as a municipal councilor of VSKP for 2 terms and became vice chairman during the 2nd term. In 1978 he was elected as a member of legislative assembly of Andhra Pradesh and was elevated as a minister for municipal administration, urban development and education.
During his tenure as municipal councilor, MLA and minister he laid firm foundations for the present prosperity of Visakhapatnam city and the region.
He personally established three educational societies
1. SRI VENKATESWARA VIDYA PEETH
2. SRI SRINIVASA VIDYA PEETH
3. SRI BALAJI VIDYA PARISHAD
